Email Security Training

Verity Networks provides email security to its clients. Here is an overview of the system and the Quarantine Digest notification email you will receive.

System Overview

Verity Networks’s email security scans inbound emails to help minimize the number of spam and malicious emails delivered to the end user. No system is perfect, and constant vigilance is required by all users, but the email security system is one of the first lines of defense for any company.

Quarantine Digest Email

At the schedule determined by your company (the default is once per day at 4:00 PM, but can be adjust to greater or lesser frequency), you will receive a Quarantine Digest email to notify you of any emails that have been received but not yet delivered to your inbox since your last Quarantine Digest email. The email will look similar to this:

There are a few parts to note in the Quarantine Digest email:
  • Each email quarantined by the system receives its own section (in this example, there are two emails), with a few pieces of information: the reason the email was flagged (spam, infomail, malware, geoblock, etc), the time the email was received, the sender, the email subject, and a few buttons on the right hand side.
  • Deliver allows you to immediately release the email into your inbox. Emails blocked for malware or known phishing will not allow the end user to deliver to their inbox; instead they will see a button to request a Verity Networks employee review and manually approve delivery.
  • Delete allows you to immediately delete the email from the quarantine if you do not want to receive it.
  • Preview safely opens the email up in a web browser and allows you to view the content of the email to see if you want it delivered or not. The page will look like this:

In the upper right hand corner of the Preview page, you will see two buttons
  • Deliver will deliver the email to your inbox. If you click the dropdown, you will have the option to whitelist the sender of the email or the sender’s entire domain.
  • Delete will delete the email permanently. If you click the dropdown, you will have the option to permanently block the sender or the sender’s entire domain.

Digest on Demand

Finally, at the bottom of any of your Quarantine Digest emails you will see a Digest on Demand section with a button that says Request. Clicking on that will send you a new Quarantine Digest with any emails blocked since your last Quarantine Digest—this is helpful if you are waiting on an email that appears to be stuck in the filter.
